2024 was the worst year on record for seafarer abandonment | |

Data from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) reveals abandonment of seafarers by ship-owners increased by 87% in 2024 from the previous year. The abandonment of seafarers is spiralling out of control, increasing nearly two-fold with 3,133 seafarers abandoned by ship-owners in 2024 compared to 1,676 in 2023. Why?

Ever wondered about the practice of parents trundling their mucous-filled, unwashed children round in the supermarket trolleys. It would make a nice study for someone to see how dirty supermarket trolleys are. When food handlers have to have high standards of hygiene it seems pointless if ones food is then placed on a surface that has had dirty shoes and other questionably grubby body parts recently placed thereon. Or should we now look at the organisms on a cell phone …or a hand bag?? How does one survive? One wonders.

Recipe of the Week:
The Easiest Gourmet Rocky Road

- 500g dark chocolate (60% cocoa solids) coarsely chopped
- 200g marshmallows coarsely chopped
- 150g roasted almonds coarsely chopped
- 20g cranberries or raisins extra for sprinkling on top
- 30g good quality black liquorice

Line 25cm x 16cm baking tray with baking paper allowing sides to overhang for easy removal; melt chocolate in a heat proof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water stirring occasionally with metal spoon until smooth; combine marshmallows, almonds, cranberries & liquorice in large bowl, pour in chocolate stir to coat well, spread mixture evenly over baking tray scatter extra cranberries over top set aside until firm. Turn out onto clean surface cut into chunks with a hot knife. Store in an airtight container will keep for up to 2 weeks.
Does not keep for two weeks - I wonder why??? Great with coffee!
